Climate and Multilateral Negotiation 

 

  • Provided advisory services to the “Because the Oceans” group of 22 countries under its 2014 – 2015 Chilean Presidency, and for Chile in the subsequent 2016 – 2017 USA Presidencies for inclusion of an ocean related agenda into the IPCC and the UNFCCC, and helped to raise funds for its operation.

  • Energeia was part of the high-Level Opinion Leaders Group that supported the UNFCCC Presidency, COP20, 2014, supportingthePresidency team in developing strategy and opinion leadership development side by side with other opinion leaders, corporate leads, and NGOs principal advisors and chairs during the year preparing the Lima COP. 

  • Energeia developed and delivered a 2011 – 2014 climate negotiation support project (Acting Together for Bold Outcomes, ATBO) for the middle income and LDC countries for CDKN, including organizing strategy sessions with representatives of a group of a group of 50+ middle income, Least Developed (LDCs), and Small Island Development States (SIDs) 

  • Energeia delivered for various EU and LAC organizations a project to support UN negotiation capacity and support, and project team members coordinated or directly help to draft most of the UNFCCC transparency framework (i.e the ICA, IAR, BUR and similar process, agreed between COP15 and COP16 (2010 – 2011)

  • Energeia contributed and helped deliver for its initial steering committee (UK, Australia, Colombia) the 2010 creation of the Cartagena dialogue, and contributed to deliver, organize or participate bi annual sessions in subsequent meetings on high ambition action (Cartagena, Colombia; Male, Maldives; San Jose, Costa Rica; Lilongwe, Malawi; Bali, Indonesia; Dhakha Bangladesh; Dushambe, Tajikistan, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Warsaw, Poland; Puebla, Mexico;  Bogotá, Colombia; Paris, France). 

  • Energeia worked as convener, for the Latin American Workshop to Increase the scale of responses (2007 – 2013) it created, that organized and coordinated 13 regular bi annual multi country LAC workshops, was deployed with participant country funding and support,  and resulted in a group of countries that led to the creation of the AILAC negotiation group at the UNFCCC.

  • Energeia members have participated as negotiators in support of the UNFCCC delegations of Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the EU presidency, México, Perú, Panamá, Marshall Islands and the UK, and as lead and advisor to AILAC and various other UN negotiation groups (including interalia AOSIS, the EU, GRULAC, and the High Ambition Coalition, and multiple ad-hoc groups). 

  • Energeia has been a member of the OECD Climate Change Expert group since 2012 and is regular participant to its sessions.
